SPC was formed in 2012 as a not-for-profit organization, and obtained 501(c)(3) status in 2023. The club's purpose is to promote pickleball within the city of Springfield, and assist and support the improvement and expansion of pickleball facilities for the health and well-being of all ages within the community.

SPC's primary revenue is from membership dues, but the club also generates revenue through donations, fundraising events, hosting tournaments, and other activities. From 2020 through 2024, SPC collected approximately $36,700 in membership dues, and provided nearly $36,000 for maintenance and improvements to local parks' courts.

SPC is governed by bylaws. The SPC Board provides oversight for the club, and consists of the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and five members of the executive council.
